Post 15 by FlyingPhoenix (move over school!) on Saturday, 02-Dec-2006 15:41:04

345 is now a talk radio station, if you like the paranormal tune in on mondays from 9-11pm and if you like talk radio thats opitioned then tune into scotts show at a time that will be decided later. we will also for the first time be taking questions and phone calls.

Post 21 by JH_Radio (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Saturday, 23-Dec-2006 20:37:30

Heh, this sounds like Z106 WZGO in Philly, shortlived in 1986. They had a reason to be sued, but you guys? The music format was so short that no one had much of a chance to check it out.

Post 22 by Toonhead71 (move over school!) on Thursday, 11-Jan-2007 1:36:27

The next talk show on this station is, what format shall we do next? we change the format every 5 minutes! We said we were Variety 345, and goddamn it, we mean it! We have such a variety that even we can't decide which format to be!

Post 23 by JH_Radio (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Thursday, 11-Jan-2007 10:14:31

Oy. Can I be the new PD/MD? I'll get a format and at least stick to it.

Post 32 by Nick6489 (11 years a Zoner) on Wednesday, 21-Feb-2007 16:38:53

Believe me, I do no how hard it is to PD one's own station, do one's own show, etc etc. However, you are making yourself look like a bit of a fool. Once you find out what your format is, then tell us. For now, though...

Post 33 by Toonhead71 (move over school!) on Wednesday, 21-Feb-2007 16:49:20

yes and the damn station changes addresses more often than not, so how in the fuck do you expect anyone to find you? If you're gonna run a real radio station, get serious about it. You might be listed with loudcity, which is great, but one dj alone does not a radio station make! Plus, pick a fucking format please? and this is coming from a guy who has at least 7 years of broadcasting experience on the net via live 365, shoutcast, Test Pattern Radio and ACBRI as well. So i tthink I might know a few things about the subject.

Post 34 by Austin (the magic fan!) on Wednesday, 21-Feb-2007 16:59:29

yeah toonhead. i agree. i'll tell you the format of the blade is variety and the format of justin's station is variety as well.
that's all i know but i do agree with you. he has changed the address a lot. but i changed only once.

Post 35 by Toonhead71 (move over school!) on Wednesday, 21-Feb-2007 21:28:32

Yep, and I'm really sorry if i came off like an ass earlier, but damn. You have to come up with a format that you know well, or one that you can do well that currently isn't being served well. You have to give people a reason to listen in, not just because *you* say it's good. well, what's good to you is probably shit to someone else, so if you're gonna run an internet station, and if you intend to get people to take you seriously, stay in one place. make the url of the station very easy to remember so that people won't have to remember some big long ip address. you can't just tell your friend hey, listen to this station, it's cool. ok, what's the address? uh...well, i can't remember it cause the dude doesn't hav a site yet, the addrress is a bunch of numbers and there's no real format to it. so keep the station at one address, make it easy, have fun with what you do and promote yourself as often as it is allowed.

Post 36 by FlyingPhoenix (move over school!) on Thursday, 22-Feb-2007 7:22:04

We are not moving from loudcity and we are not allowed to give direct links, SPSPR is staying put so there will not be anymore moves to other addresses. As far as format, we play variety all day and on fridays there is a paranormal talk show, as more DJs are brought in so will other formats. There are 3 formats so far, Variety,Talk and the softer music at night from 1-4am eastern. So the formats are comming just give it time. It would help in my show if folks made requests.

Post 37 by Austin (the magic fan!) on Thursday, 22-Feb-2007 14:17:54

i love it justin. it's a good station!

Post 38 by FlyingPhoenix (move over school!) on Thursday, 22-Feb-2007 14:58:22

Well An offical launch date has been set, 3/1/07. We also are proud to introduce a dial-up stream for dial-up internet users. You can tune into our test shows till then.

Post 39 by FlyingPhoenix (move over school!) on Friday, 23-Feb-2007 13:13:23

SPSPR is looking for DJs, however we insist till we get the application up that if you want to DJ till GeniusJ.

Post 41 by JH_Radio (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Friday, 23-Feb-2007 15:08:03

Veriety? Oh tha'ts lovely, what, exactly does this mean? Beatles next to Bay Toven, next to Miles Davis, next to LL Cool J, next to Korn, next to Kenny Rogers, next to The Sound Of Music, next to Marteena McBride, next to Iio? What kinda format is that again.... Certainly I would not want to hear such an unformatted mess. Its too wide. That's what I seem to hear when it comes to Veriety when it comes to net radio.

Post 42 by FlyingPhoenix (move over school!) on Friday, 23-Feb-2007 15:24:24

This is what we are working on, listen folks internet radio is expensive, SPSPR is trying to get different stuff but you must remember that money doesnt grow on trees. We have alot planned for SPSPR but funds are low. if you want more then make donations when thats able to be done.

Post 43 by JH_Radio (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Friday, 23-Feb-2007 17:31:52

Right but my point along with others is that you need to have something and stick to it. Most people are not going to want to listen to something that is so wide....
I know its not cheap, but I guess my point is, that having veriety so wide I feel, won't attract listeners. Sure it may until the "newe" factor wares off.
John

Post 44 by FlyingPhoenix (move over school!) on Friday, 23-Feb-2007 17:31:53

And The Sound of music next to LL cool J what station are you listening too? Its not SPSPR

Post 45 by JH_Radio (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Friday, 23-Feb-2007 17:48:56

What I'm pointing out is Veriety in the sense of the word seems to be overkill. Veriety within a format is never a bad thing, but jumping around everyware is bad. I have heard stations that have done LL Cool J next to Kenny Gee. People who listen to Kenny G are probably not going to listen to LL Cool J. At least the majority of people won't, the average people wouldn't. I'm looking at this from more a programming/music directors point of you, with target demmos etc. While I don't agree about how some testing gets done, and the way some MD's/PD's view veriety, I don't think it should be totily the other way either.
John

Post 46 by FlyingPhoenix (move over school!) on Friday, 23-Feb-2007 17:55:54

John keep in mind SPSPR is in its testing phase, our offical start date is to me 3/1/07. trust me If I had DJs it would be an easier start up.

Post 47 by JH_Radio (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Friday, 23-Feb-2007 18:02:26

I work for Jammin 85.3 and it is hard finding jocks. The thing of it is that there are so many of these stations that are so small, why can't we have a network or something? Combine all the costs that everyone insues and put it into one station? I mean what's better? Ten little stations with ten dj's doing different things at the same time slot, or one big station with ten shifts, and that much more bandwhith to play with? I mean if you really wanted to get into it, we all could have access to an FTP server with Music libraries, Sound FX, we could get jingles made up by Jamm's, etc....
Or do I dream a dream ... that wouldn't work?
John

Post 48 by FlyingPhoenix (move over school!) on Friday, 23-Feb-2007 19:02:50

Well finding Jocks is tough, and I wouldnt combine for nothing, I'd love ftp access honestly though

Post 49 by JH_Radio (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Friday, 23-Feb-2007 20:33:49

My point is that the jocks are spread out all over the place in all these tiny little stations. It seems kinda stupid in a way.
John

Post 50 by Toonhead71 (move over school!) on Saturday, 24-Feb-2007 3:04:58

JH makes an excellent point here, GeniusJ. As I said before, you don't want to go all over the road. and see this is a very good thing, your station is in the testing phase, so please don't take our criticisms as bad or that we're atempting to put you and your station down, cause we're definitely not. But see, the thing is this. If you want to keep your station going, you're going to have to do some marketing and promotion. If you pick a specific format such as CHR or Modern rock, it's much easier to get a target audience because people do tend to like one type of music, rather than such a wide range. Get the average seventeen year old to tune in and the first song they hear is by Fall Out Boy, you're guaranteed a listener I would think. But, if after that song, you go straight into a song by the Beatles, they're gonna turn you off. you have to give the listeners a reason to tune you in, and, here's the important part, stay tuned in for a good long while. Make it interesting and compelling to them, and make it something that people will rreally want to listen to, and tell all their friends about it. and if you can afford it, do a tell-a-friend promotion, where if a listener brings 10 friends to the station, and they all mention that person's name, then the person and their friend, win some kind of a prize. That definitely keeps them listening, and promotes the station in a positive way. I'm no programming expert, but i've been listening to radio now for over 30 years, and I've learned a few things in that time, the biggest one being, if you give your listeners a reason to tune in, they'll not only tune in, but they'll tell their friends if they think it's good. So, be thinking about what format you'll do on your launch date. and even better, do some kind of tease. promote your station and put something interesting on the stream, get people listening and make them say, 'what in the hell is this?' I'm staying tuned! I hope what I'm saying makes sense here. I do want your station to be a success, so I'm just offering a few pointers.

Post 51 by JH_Radio (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Saturday, 24-Feb-2007 9:35:39

I can tell you from experience, I did a show that played top40 from the 50's throuh today on Jamin 85.3 the station for which I work.Show doesn't have many listeners. My ahrd drive died, but when I bring back the show, I'm going to stick to Dancd/CHR for one show, and perhaps do a 50's-70 Oldies show.
I may do a third Hot AC, not sure.
John

Post 52 by Nick6489 (11 years a Zoner) on Saturday, 24-Feb-2007 11:16:09

To be quite honest, I think STSTR or whatever it's called should just combine with Jammin 85.3. DJ's are incredibly hard to come by, ya know.

Post 53 by FlyingPhoenix (move over school!) on Saturday, 24-Feb-2007 12:27:18

Again we will not combine

Post 54 by FlyingPhoenix (move over school!) on Saturday, 24-Feb-2007 12:27:44

again if you want more you got to donate

Post 55 by Toonhead71 (move over school!) on Saturday, 24-Feb-2007 16:13:04

Ok, with that attitude, you're gonna lose. when SPSTR is gone in a month, you'll see what I'm talking about.

Post 56 by FlyingPhoenix (move over school!) on Saturday, 24-Feb-2007 17:41:47

Its Amazing how We'll fail just cuz we refuse to combine with anyone your nuts

Post 57 by Toonhead71 (move over school!) on Saturday, 24-Feb-2007 18:37:50

Ok, if you absolutely insist on doing it on your own and you do the variety format, i'll give ya one more tip and you can take it for what it is. If you're gonna do variety, then for God's sake, keep it simple. If you play a song by Rush let's say, then play another one by Led Zeppelin or the Doors or something like that, instead of going from Rush, to Prince, to Slayer, to Janet Jackson, to the Beatles. sure that's all good stuff, and everyone may like it, but keep it together in blocks like that.
that way people know what to expect.
and hey, i saw something earlier in the thread about having a talk show now and then, that's an excellent idea. Give the people listening something they can't get anywhere else. Make it so that if they really want something they have to come to you and only you to get it. If you make it compelling, people will keep coming back. That's the best advice I can give ya. Despite whaat you might've thought, I do want the station to succeed. I wouldn't have kept coming back here and giving all these suggestions if I didn't.

Post 58 by FlyingPhoenix (move over school!) on Saturday, 24-Feb-2007 18:47:44

well right now with talk shows we have a paranormal one lined up with more to come

Post 59 by FlyingPhoenix (move over school!) on Saturday, 24-Feb-2007 19:43:53

http://www.sps-paranormal.com/broadcasting/search.php make your requests there, If I got it the music will show up. if not add a comment asking me to get it. remember you must find a song thats there first to make a comment.

Post 60 by JH_Radio (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Monday, 26-Feb-2007 9:52:53

We will not combine? wow. personally I will not work for a station that is so close minded.
John

Post 61 by FlyingPhoenix (move over school!) on Monday, 26-Feb-2007 10:55:23

I'm not closed minded I would just like to do this without combining my station.

Post 62 by margorp (I've got the gold prolific poster award, now is there a gold cup for me?) on Monday, 26-Feb-2007 11:34:57

You know...it's generally a good idea to combine.

Post 63 by FlyingPhoenix (move over school!) on Monday, 26-Feb-2007 12:47:31

generally I would agree but this station isnt just variety music. We also do talk.

Post 64 by Toonhead71 (move over school!) on Monday, 26-Feb-2007 13:39:31

and so does Jammin 85.3. They also have variety music and talk programming. There's this thing called flexibility. you should try it sometime.

Post 65 by FlyingPhoenix (move over school!) on Monday, 26-Feb-2007 13:58:56

DJtoonhead my friend I'm flexible I just know what works and doesnt

Post 66 by Nick6489 (11 years a Zoner) on Sunday, 04-Mar-2007 16:04:09

Don't ever make those comments around Chris, John, or me. We're all veterans of the seen, I myself am a PD of a modestly successful station. If you're going to act like that, you're dumed to failure. Jammin 85.3 and TechnoFrag Radio need all the help they can get, and here you are trying to start your own station for the express purpose of starting one show that can probably fit in on those two stations? That sounds, in my view, like supreme arrogance.

Post 67 by FlyingPhoenix (move over school!) on Sunday, 04-Mar-2007 20:56:09

opinions are like assholes everyones got one nick and thats your right but dont ever come to me with that kind of tone

Post 68 by JH_Radio (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Sunday, 04-Mar-2007 22:11:15

I think talking to Justen about what is better is pointless. Its kinda like talking to a wall. It sure won't change anything. Keep doing it your way and projecting the "I don't give a fuck what others say" additude and see how far you get. That is all.
John

Post 69 by FlyingPhoenix (move over school!) on Thursday, 08-Mar-2007 3:58:14

look I do care about your opinions I just have my vision of what I want. No disrespect to either one of you. Take a listen, then give me pointers on my station please.

Post 70 by JH_Radio (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Friday, 09-Mar-2007 12:50:20

Post 74 by FlyingPhoenix (move over school!) on Saturday, 31-Mar-2007 15:56:02

Look I'm not shutting down but instead since I'd love for most of you to listen to the station I'm going to give better instructions on how to listen.

1. go to the following link, http://loudcity.com/station/1283.aspx
2. click the speed broadband or dial up. You only have to do this if your a first time listener.
3. find your way to the winamp or windows media links and choose one.
4. when you click either of the links a dialog box will open asking you if you would like to open the file.
5. click yes.
6. once you do this the musuc should play automatic. but if for some reason it does not. just click play.
7. Adjust your sound so you dont blast your ears.
8. Enjoy the music.

This is absolutely no surprise to me, saw it coming. Maybe someday you guys will start a radio station and actually stay with it for more than a month? Looks like other stations like the blade will stick around when these others are just a toy to play with for a while.

Post 77 by FlyingPhoenix (move over school!) on Tuesday, 01-May-2007 11:10:38

this wasnt a toy, my partner pulled out and I couldnt afford it alone and as much as I wanted to stay on the air I could not.

Post 78 by FlyingPhoenix (move over school!) on Tuesday, 01-May-2007 20:33:07

I would have loved to keep the station

honestly toonhead you act as if it was nothing more than a toy I grew tired of and thats not it at all
